    After living in the Collingwood - Owen Sound area for two years, Malen Vidler founded Adventure Upwards in the summer of 1997.  Malen has a long time background with the outdoors being a hiker, camper, rock / ice climber, and mountain biker.

   Adventure Upwards is a company for outdoor enthusiasts operated by an outdoor enthusiast.  All Adventure Upwards instructors are outdoor professionals who would rather be climbing than working.

   Malen's qualifications include:

 

 

  1. A "Leave No Trace" Master Educator.

  2. Experienced rock climber for over 13 years, experienced in all disciplines for over 12 years.

  3. Successful participant of "Rigging for Rescue" seminars.

  4. NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Technician

  5. St. John's Ambulance First Aid / CPR Instructor.

  6. Active Canadian Ski Patrol System Patroller, and First Aid Instructor.

  7. Assoc of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) Top Rope Climbing Instructor. &

  8. Malen is a member in good standing with the ACMG.

 

   Besides all of the above, he has a strong background in wilderness navigation, camping, and hiking.  He has climbed all over Eastern North America including; Ontario, Quebec, N.Y., Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, West Virginia, Kentucky, as well as British Columbia and Alberta

   He has hiked throughout Ontario (Bruce trail, several areas in Southern Ontario, and at Mattawa, for just a few spots), extensively through New York state (Adirondacks), Maine, New Hampshire, British Columbia (around Panorama), West Virginia, and some in Kentucky.

   On top of all this Malen also enjoys mountain bike in the summer months and is a volunteer Ski Patroller in the winter months.
